The Razer Blade Stealth

The Razer Blade Stealth 13 could be “the world’s first gaming ultrabook,” as the company claims. It features Intel’s brand-new 10th-gen, 10nm Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7 inside, and—wait for it—a GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. 

On paper, we’d agree. Most thin-and-light laptops by definition remove any consideration of discrete graphics, because hot GPUs and tight spaces don’t mix well. There’s Huawei’s Matebook X Pro with its GeForce MX150, but that discrete GPU isn’t even formally considered a gaming part by Nvidia. The Razer Blade Stealth 13’s GeForce GTX 1650 is far more capable, but we don’t know just how fast Razer can run it in a laptop this small.

We’re not even sure the Razer Blade Stealth 13 can call itself an ultrabook, let alone a gaming one. It measures about 12 inches wide, 8.3 inches deep, and about 0.6 inch thick (15.3mm.) It’s that thickness and the side view that’ll make you question its ultrabook claim. 

At least you get the new parts inside. Besides the 10th-gen, 10nm Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7, you also get that CPU’s new support for LPDDR-X/3733 RAM. Razer correctly offers it with 16GB of RAM, unlike some makers who are dipping as low as 4GB.

Razer will offer three versions. The two GTX models share the same 16GB of LPDDR4X, 512GB PCIe SSD, Core i7-1065G7, WiFi 6, and 53.1-watt-hour battery. The only difference is the display: One offers a 1080p screen, and the other a 4K touch display.

All three feature 4-lane Thunderbolt 3 ports, as well as USB-C and USB-A ports. While all three share the same trackpad, battery capacity, and CPU, there is a weight difference. The CPU-only Blade Stealth 13 will weigh about 2.99 pounds. The step up with the GeForce GTX ups the weight to 3.13 pounds. Add the 4K panel and touch (which requires heavier glass) and the weight goes to 3.26 pounds. Battery life is expected to be best on the model without discrete graphics, and worst on the 4K model. The increased power of the GPUs will also require a bigger power brick with the GeForce models featuring a 100 watt brick, and the CPU-only model featuring just a 65-watt model.

The biggest disappointment to gamers may be the keyboard. While known for its dazzling per-key displays of color, Razer said only single-zone lightning will be used. The company didn’t say why, but the decision on previous models was usually over battery life concerns.

Asus and Nvidia’s ProArt StudioBook

Asus and Nvidia’s new ProArt StudioBook One might be the answer to contrent creators’ infinite need for graphics speed. Announced Wednesday afternoon at IFA in Berlin. and claiming the modest title of “world’s most powerful laptop,” the Asus and Nvidia collaboration will be the first to boast Nvidia’s Quadro RTX 6000 GPU.

Nvidia offered few hard details but did say the ProArt StudioBook One will include a Core i9 CPU, 64GB of DDR4, a 1TB NVMe SSD, WiFi 5, a 90-watt-hour battery, and three Thunderbolt 3 ports. Pricing wasn’t available either, but if a Quadro RTX desktop GPU itself is $3,600 today, this laptop won’t be cheap.

Desktop-like performance

The mobile version of the desktop Quadro RTX 6000  will feature “desktop-like” performance, according to Nvidia. Mobile GPUs had crept close to desktop performance in previous years, but both the GTX 10-series and the RTX 20-series generation saw desktop jump far ahead again. For example, laptop GPUs have topped out at the GeForce RTX 2080, with no mobile version of the wickedly fast GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. The same happened with the GeForce GTX 1080, which offered no GeForce GTX 1080 Ti equivalent.

Titanium cooling

Two reasons why we haven’t seen mobile GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or GeForce RTX 2080 Ti are likely cooling and power. That’s where Nvidia lent its aid in the form of an Nvidia-designed titanium vapor chambers, capable of cooling up to 300 watts in a 25mm-thick body.

Nvidia officials said the titanium vapor chambers were selected mostly to reduce weight. While titanium isn’t known to be particularly conductive of heat, it was likely chosen as a trade-off in thermal efficiency.

A tiny, yet powerful power brick

To keep the laptop running, there’s also a pretty tiny yet powerful 300-watt power brick that appears to use a USB-PD connector. You can see the brick in the screenshot below on the right. Nvidia said it’s about half the size of a traditional 330-watt brick (which is literally the size of a brick), yet it looks like a USB-PD or USB-C connector is used.

The third and most likely answer is the power brick is proprietary but still USB-C/PD. Dell pulled this trick with its XPS 15 2-in-1, which featured a 130-watt power brick. To get around the 100 watt max, Dell has the charger check to see whether it’s connected to the XPS 15 2-in-1. If it is, it may exceed the 100-watt limit. If it isn’t, it limits itself to the standard or lower.

One requirement for professionals is a high-end display. The ProArt StudioBook One features a 15.6-inch 4K display with 120Hz refresh rate. It will hit 100 percent of Adobe RGB, has a Delta E of <1 and is Pantone validated to be 97 percent of DCI-P3. The display is also factory-calibrated.

Technically, Windows Sandbox is a lightweight virtual machine, a tool often used by developers and researchers to test new software within a controlled environment. Virtualization creates an entire virtual computer, complete with operating system, storage, and memory, within your existing Windows PC. 

Granted, Windows already offers Hyper-V to achieve similar tasks. What makes Sandbox so appealing is that Sandbox is to Hyper-V as Windows 10’s Mail app is to Outlook: a simplified, user-friendly version of a much more complex application.

Beyond the Windows 10 Pro requirement, Windows Sandbox’s performance impact demands a modern, fairly powerful machine with virtualization capabilities. Here are the minimum specifications for the feature:

•        A 64-bit processor capable of virtualization, with at least two CPU cores; Microsoft recommends a quad-core chip. (Virtually all Intel processors sold since 2016 support virtualization, though this Intel guide explains how to check. Otherwise, the Performance tab within the Task Manager will tell you whether virtualization is enabled—credit to Shailesh Jha for the reminder.)

•        Virtualization enabled in your motherboard BIOS, if it’s not already

•        Windows Pro, Enterprise, or Server

Windows Sandbox is an alternate feature of Windows, and it won’t be installed by default even if it’s available to you. To enable it, you’ll need to go to the Windows Features control panel, which you can find by searching for Turn Windows features on and off. To enable Sandbox, you’ll need to scroll down and check the proper box. Windows will install the necessary files and may need to reboot your PC.

Your Chromium browser is not ready to play Netflix yet. You must install a Chrome extension called “User-Agent Switcher For Chrome” to your Chromium browser in order to watch Netflix.

Go to Chrome Web Store on your Raspberry Pi and then search for the above extension. Now install it to your browser. 

After that, open the installed extension on your browser and then you have to make a new user agent string using the details given below:

  1. Type “Netflix” in the field located next to the “New User-agent name” option.
  2. In the front of “New user-agent string” option, copy and paste: “Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS armv7l 6946.63.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/47.0.2526.106 Safari/537.36”
  3. Type Chrome in the next to “Group” option.
  4. Now enter “Replace” next to “Append” option.
  5. In the field located next to the “Indicator flag” type “IE” and then hit the Add button.
  6. Now tap the extension’s icon located in the top-left corner.
  7. Then go to Chrome and then select Netflix.

Still, the immediate response from the developers on a live stream does not hint at any possibility of reducing the difficulty associated with the current raid.
